Help make the heat bearable for the sickest children.
Kasia MasserI have started this initiative to raise money for the children’s intensive care unit at the Sophia Kinderziekenhuis— where Tibi my second son spent his final days. He died in one of the isolation rooms, as the nurses did everything they could to keep him cool. But the air conditioning couldn’t cope with the heat.
Those rooms become like saunas during heatwaves. Critically ill children, clinging to life, are left to fight not only their condition but the unbearable heat.
A new building is in progress for the Sophia, but right now the existing ward is still in use—and the children who are there today can’t wait. 2025 was even hotter than 2020. I cannot imagine what it was like in those rooms.
As inspiration I will be cutting off my hair and donating it to have it turned into wigs for children with cancer—something I’m funding personally in memory of the other children who passed through the hospital. But this fundraiser is about more than hair. It’s about helping to keep children alive in humane conditions.
If you can, please donate. Every euro helps. And every donation is a step closer to making sure no parent has to watch what I did—knowing the technology needed can be installed.
